The Maltese airline, Air Malta, registered around 15.000 cancellations in July following new government travel restrictions. We remind you that Malta has changed the conditions of entry in the country for those vaccinated and unvaccinated.
On July 9, Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne introduced the new rules, which went into effect on July 14. According to them, only people with a COVID-19 certificate were allowed to enter Malta. If this document does not exist, the passenger must be quarantined for 14 days.
According to the official website, the vaccination certificates recognized in Malta are the following:
- Official Maltese vaccination certificate
- EU COVID-19 digital vaccination certificate issued by EU, EEA and non-EU countries connected to EUDCC gateway
- COVID-19 vaccination certificate issued by the NHS (paper or digital) of the United Kingdom (COVID-19)
- The vaccine certificate from the United Arab Emirates issued by the Dubai health authorities
- Turkish vaccine certificate
- CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Registration Card from the United States
- Serbian digital green certificate with a readable QR code
- Vaccination certificate Gibraltar, Jersey and Guernsey
Moreover, Air Malta said that booking trends have changed since the introduction of the restrictions. The change was not evident until after the introduction of the new rules, but it continues to affect travel trends even now, almost two weeks later.
Air Malta said cancellations in August were not the same as in July, with only 3.000 seats canceled so far. However, the airline expressed concern about the new bookings, saying the booking trend had stopped and no progress had been made.
