China cancels 1200 flights to / from Beijing due to a new COVID-19 outbreak

On June 17, 2020, more than 1200 flights to and from Beijing airports were canceled, all due to a new possible outbreak of COVID-19 in China.

Chinese authorities are trying to limit the spread of a new coronavirus outbreak linked to a food market. In recent days, more than 130 new patients have been detected.

China cancels 1200 flights to / from Beijing

As of June 11, international flights have already been suspended from / to Beijing following a decision by the Chinese Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC). International flights were diverted to 16 other cities in China. Authorities also closed schools in Beijing, urging residents not to leave the capital.

The news comes after China's domestic flight market showed signs of recovery, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA). In February 2020, the internal market fell by up to 85%, IATA data showed.
