COVID-19 Daily - October 11, 2021: Italy vaccinated 80% of the population over the age of 12; Arrests following violent clashes in Italy; terrorist convictions!

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause direct and indirect casualties. While most European countries continue the accelerated vaccination process and have exceeded the 60% threshold, Romania still remains at the bottom of the ranking with only 30% of the eligible population vaccinated. • Italy has achieved the goal of fully vaccinating 80% of the population over the age of 12 against COVID-19, according to official data, achieving a goal that Rome has set as a safety point.

According to a government website, 43 people over the age of 229, out of a total population of about 551 million, were completely vaccinated by October 12th.

• Italian police said on Sunday they had arrested 12 people, including senior officials of the far-right Forza Nuova party., following Saturday's clashes in Rome against a government action to make COVID-19 a "Green Pass" mandatory for all workers.

Police used water cannons on protesters as a group tried to break through police lines to reach Prime Minister Mario Draghi's office.. A separate group tried to enter the headquarters of the main CGIL union in Italy.

The protests come days before Italy becomes the first country in Europe to impose a mandatory Green Pass at work in order to speed up vaccinations and eliminate coronavirus infections. Similar protests took place over the weekend in Switzerland and France.

• A French judge has accused four men of suspected links to a far-right conspiracy theorist for allegedly planning a series of attacks, including on coronavirus vaccination centers., reports AFP. A judge has ordered the arrests as part of an investigation into a group known as "Honor and Nation."

• The Russian authorities explained the numerical discrepancies between the statistical service Rosstat and the data of the coronavirus working group by the fact that the latter reports daily deaths due to COVID-19 that do not require additional confirmations from medical examiners, while Rosstat publishes complete data every month. Rosstat recently announced that at least 49.389 died in August, bringing the total to about 418.000.
