  • One of the most famous beaches is Paleokastritsa. Located in the northeast of the island, Paleokastritsa beach is well known for its cold, crystalline, turquoise water. The landscape of Palaiokastritsa, as the locals call it, is unique. And if you look back from the sea, you can see orchards of lemons and olive trees, but also scattered houses on the mountainside.
  • Other recommended beaches are Ayia Varvara (with reddish sands), Glyfada, Canal d`amour, Kassiopi, Roda.

How do I get to the island of Corfu?

One of the most popular holiday destinations for Romanians is the island of Corfu. Every year, thousands of Romanians end up spending their holidays on one of the wonderful beaches on the "emerald island". You can get to Corfu by car, plane or bus.

By personal car

The distance between Bucharest and Corfu is about 1150 kilometers. Most Romanian tourists prefer their personal car because the roads are good (both in Bulgaria and in Greece) and there are many places where you can make a stop to relax.

You can travel on the route: Bucharest - Giurgiu - Ruse - Beala - Pleven - Sofia (belt) - Blagoevgrad - Sandanski - Kulata - Promachonas - Thessaloniki - highway to Athens - Veria - Kozani - Metsovo - Ioannina - Igoumenitsa - ferry - Corfu.

As costs, in addition to fuel, a driver traveling to Greece must also pay the Giurgiu - Ruse bridge tax, a Bulgarian vignette valid for a week or a month - depending on how long he is on vacation, the ferry, but also a motorway toll in Greece.

By plane

For those interested in a trip to Corfu by plane, there are many flights to Corfu International Airport "Ioannis Kapodistrias", which is only 3 km from Corfu Town. Although it is the most expensive method of transport, it is also the fastest method. Every summer, there are numerous charter flights between the big cities in Romania and Corfu.

Related to the frequent flights on a regular basis, they are operated by Wizz Air. The flights start on June 15, they are seasonal, with a frequency of 2 weekly rotations.

By bus

For those who do not want a personal car, and the plane is not really a pleasure, there is also the possibility to travel by bus. You can buy tourist packages (accommodation + bus transport) or you can travel individually.

The bus ride takes about 22-24 hours. It circulates at night, it stops every three hours for relaxation, toilet, lunch break, but the most important thing is that you do not drive and you can relax. You have the best chance of the bus stopping in front of the hotel. The comfort is not the same as in your own car and the road takes a longer time, but relaxation comes to the destination.
