The government has published the draft Emergency Ordinance that provides for the reduction of state expenses, including by limiting the number of vacation vouchers for budget workers and the food allowance.

According to the document, which amends, among other things, the ordinance from 2009 regarding the issuance of holiday vouchers, public institutions, "regardless of the financing and subordination system, including activities financed entirely from their own revenues, established alongside public institutions, grant, annually to the staff who achieve gross monthly income from salary of up to 10.000 lei, including, during the period January 1, 2024 - December 31, 2026, holiday vouchers in the amount of 1.450 lei for an employee".

In other words, only budget workers who are paid a maximum of 5.850 lei net will receive vouchers starting in 2024. However, the draft ordinance provides that vacation allowances will be suspended for the entire year 2024.

It should be mentioned that parents can use the vouchers to pay for children's camps as well.

In 2022, for example, more than 19.7 million holiday vouchers were issued, worth more than 943 million lei. The state will offer the vouchers until 2026. All vouchers issued in 2023 can be used for one year. Also, holiday vouchers worth 1.450 lei can only be used in Romania.
