The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) organized, at the initiative of the president of the organization, Mihai Daraban, the second meeting dedicated to the launch of the project on intercity air connectivity on the territory of Romania.

During this meeting, a complex study was presented whose central theme was the lack of connectivity between Romania's cities, caused by the poor land and railway infrastructure that Romania currently has, as well as the solutions identified for starting this new project from the aeronautical field. Thus, the deadline of December 1, 2023 for the establishment of a joint-stock company, with the participation of the county councils that operate airports, was advanced, the name reserved for this new company being: Romanian Airlines (LAR).

Romanian Airlines (LAR) for domestic flights in Romania

The meeting was attended, both physically and online, by the representatives of the county councils from: Arad, Brașov, Bacău, Constanța, Maramureș and Sibiu. The meeting also benefited from the presence of representatives of the academic environment, who prepared the study on air connectivity, and that of aeronautical specialists from Tulcea Danube Delta Airport, Arad International Airport, Maramureș International Airport, Ștefan cel Mare Airport in Suceava , Craiova International Airport and Regional Air Services Tuzla.

LAR will have a significant number of small capacity aircraft

"At the moment, if someone wants to fly from Constanța to Timisoara, they will have to make a stopover in Rome or Milan, as there is no direct route between the two Romanian cities. We are basically talking about a big waste of time and money. The new air operator proposed by CCIR, which will take the form of a joint-stock company, with the participation of county councils as shareholders, will operate with a significant number of small-capacity aircraft between the most important cities of the country.

For business people and not only, this will mean that, in the course of a single day, they can travel within the territory of Romania between cities located hundreds of kilometers away from each other, saving money and time being obvious. From the first meeting on this topic, I was happy to see that, following the discussions, the county councils approved this project. Today we are really taking the first steps towards the establishment of the new Romanian airline", said the president of CCIR, Mr. Mihai Daraban.

Present at the meeting, the president of the Brașov County Council, Șerban Todorică-Constantin emphasized the fact that "not only business people will benefit from this new project. There are surgeon doctors for example, specializing in different fields, who need to travel from one city to another for certain special medical procedures. Also, there may be cases of medical emergencies that can be better handled in different cities of Romania. Last but not least, we must also think about tourism, as such a company can give a serious boost to this economic field".
