Lufthansa Group results in 2019: approximately 145 million passengers carried

Short and to the point, in 2019, the number of passengers carried by Lufthansa Group airlines increased by 2.3% compared to 2018. And the aircraft loading rate increased to 82.5% (average), 1% more than in 2018.

The new figures represent new records for the Lufthansa Group, surpassing the previous records recorded in 2018. Also in 2019, the Lufthansa Group companies operated over 1.2 million flights.

We should mention that Lufthansa Group is made up of full-service airlines Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines and low-cost airlines Eurowings (with Germanwings) and Brussels Airlines.

Thus, in 2019, the airline companies carried approximately 108 million passengers. That means a 3.2% increase over 2018. Lufthansa carried 71.3 million passengers, Austrian Airlines carried about 14.7 million passengers, and SWISS approximately 18.8 million passengers. In addition to the passenger traffic registered by the regional subsidiaries.

In the low-cost chapter, the situation was not very good. Eurowings carried around 28.1 million passengers, down 1.4% from 2018. And Brussels Airlines carried about 11 million passengers.

Analyzing according to the hubs of the airlines, the biggest increases were in Zurich (+ 5.7%), Vienna (+ 5.1%) and Munich (+ 2.5%). There are moderate but important increases. The Frankfurt hub also saw an increase in the number of passengers, but only a modest 0.4%.

Thus, Lufthansa Group ranks second in Europe, after Ryanair, in the number of passengers carried.
