The MAE has issued a series of recommendations for Romanian citizens who will travel on Easter. They are urged to prepare their trip in advance, taking into account the following general recommendations:

General recommendations

  • Periodically consult the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (www.mae.ro), the section Travel Conditions.  
  • Respect the residence regime, validity limits of visas or residence permits, as the case. In this sense, check the column Visas and consular services - Visa regime.    
  • Find out about the security situation in the destination country!  In this sense, check the column Travel alerts.    
  • Make sure that the travel documents are AVAILABLE and in good condition!
  • It is advisable to have with you, in addition to a travel document valid and an identity document (preferably with a photo - for example the driver's license).    
  • Register at the nearest diplomatic mission if you are traveling to unsafe or remote areas. 

Contact the Romanian embassy / consulate if you are in difficulty during your trip abroad

  • If you are in trouble abroad, contact the Romanian embassy or consulate in order to benefit from specialized consular assistance, in accordance with the legislation in force.
    You can find the coordinates of diplomatic missions and consular offices in the column Missions of Romania.
  • Avoid involvement in demonstrations or street demonstrations in the countries visited.  
  • Regardless of the destination area, keep your documents, valuables, travel tickets, money and credit cards in safe places and do not display them visibly on you or in cars.   

Comply with local laws

  • Avoid traveling in dangerous areas!  
  • Obtain your a guide of the country you are going to.
  • Comply with local legislation!  Romanian citizens located in the territory of other states are subject to the jurisdiction of those states and are responsible for any violation of local laws or rules. No matter how different the foreign laws or rules are compared to those existing in Romania, their compliance is mandatory and ensures your peace, comfort and dignity vis-à-vis the local authorities. The responsibility of complying with the laws abroad and of ensuring legal representation in the event of the institution of legal proceedings rests individually with each Romanian citizen. 

Respect local traditions and customs

  • You are responsible for any violation of local laws, even if you are not aware of them.
  • Respect local traditions and customs. Some social behaviors may fall under the criminal law of the respective country.
  • Ask the locals for permission to take photos or videos.
  • Make sure you have sufficient financial means to support yourself and family members, as appropriate.
  • If you are traveling by plane, find out about the products you can take in your hand luggage.

Do not accept to carry other people's luggage

  • Do not undertake to carry the luggage of unknown persons. There is a risk that they contain prohibited products, and you will bear the consequences of the law!  
  • If you are traveling by plane or train, consult the guide EU passenger rights, made by the European Commission. This material provides useful information about your rights in case of denied boarding, canceled flight, prolonged delays, lost luggage. The guide also contains information on the accessibility of passengers with reduced mobility.
  • When traveling by bus/train, be careful with your luggage throughout the journey.
