Malta's Health Minister Chris Fearne revealed on Tuesday that the country would relax some of the COVID-19 restrictions. The minister announced that vaccination certificates will no longer be required for access to snack bars, restaurants and clubs, starting February 7.

The minister explained that the country has decided to ease the national restrictions related to Coronavirus, as the number of active infections as well as hospitalizations have decreased significantly. In addition, he noted that the number of citizens who have already received a booster dose has also increased, suggesting that strict rules no longer need to be applied.

According to data provided by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, 67,7% of the entire adult population in Malta has already received an additional dose. In contrast, 94,3% of the adult population received only a single dose of vaccine, while another 93,1% completed their primary vaccination with two doses of vaccine.

In addition to the above, the Minister also revealed that Malta intends to shorten the quarantine requirements from ten to seven days for close contacts of infected people. Fearne said it was too early to talk about the rule, saying it could be shortened in the second half of February.
