The airline has requested permission from the U.S. Department of Transportation to operate scheduled and charter flights to and from Iceland to the United States, according to a statement from the airline on August 23, 2021.

If the application is accepted, the flights could be launched immediately after the beginning of 2022.

PLAY was founded in 2019 and officially launched operations at the end of June 2021. The Keflavik carrier has a fleet of three Airbus A321neo aircraft.
