Ryanair expects passenger numbers from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) to grow by at least 50% over the next decade, said Alicja Wojcik-Golebiowska, RYANAIR Country Manager for Central and Eastern Europe. It considers that the eastern area of Europe is a less developed market and wants that in a few years it will be sufficiently developed like the mature markets of Italy, Spain or Poland.

"It is quite difficult at the moment to talk about the exact numbers, but we hope that the whole region will grow by at least 50%. Central and Eastern Europe has been a bit behind in recent years. So we want to focus our activity in this region to catch up with our most developed markets such as Spain, Italy or Polandshe said.

Hungarian airline Wizz Air will be its main competitor as it offers similar cheap fares as well as connections to the Middle East. Asked how RYANAIR plans to compete with Wizz Air, Wojcik-Golebiowska said they will be using “the best fares, with the best punctuality and also the fewest delays and cancellations". She said RYANAIR is also aiming for a dominant position in countries such as Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary.

"We plan to do this by offering more routes, better fares and more travel options for our passengers".
