Italy's airport workers, who are represented by the unions CUB, UGL, FLAI, FIT, CISL and USB, plan to strike nationwide for 24 hours on September 8. Unions are demanding an increase in wages in line with inflation. Further industrial action by airport staff is announced for September 16 and 29. Inevitably, the strike will lead to flight delays and cancellations. Even after the strike ends, the situation will not immediately return to normal, as it will take several hours, perhaps even days, for air traffic to return to normal.
Strike in Italy on September 8, 2023
In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs Romanian citizens who are in, transiting or intend to travel to Italy that, on September 8, 2023, a national strike is planned for 24 hours in the airport and aviation sector.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Romanian citizens inform themselves before starting their trip and contact the airline to receive timely updates, as there is a risk of serious delays or cancellations of booked/scheduled flights.
