Thailand plans to declare coronavirus an "endemic disease" by the end of this year, no matter what the World Health Organization (WHO) decides. This will allow the country to end the pandemic and completely reopen its borders, including for the entire flow of tourists. The statement was made by the Thai Ministry of Health. According to him, the decision was taken at a meeting of the National Committee for Infectious Diseases.

"Thailand will develop its own academically acceptable criteria for determining whether Covid-19 is a pandemic or an endemicSaid Thai experts. According to them, this decision will be made on the basis of three criteria, all of which are close to implementation in Thailand. Namely:

  • 80% of those at risk had to be vaccinated with at least two doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
  • The daily level of Covid-19 infection should be less than 10.000 cases per day, and this figure has not exceeded Thailand since October 18.
  • The mortality rate should not exceed 0,1%. Currently, the mortality rate in Thailand is almost 1%.

"As the mortality rate decreases and infections become less severe and people are completely vaccinated, Covid-19 can be declared an endemic disease. If this does not change, the Ministry of Health will officially announce that the spread of the Covid-19 virus as a pandemic in Thailand has ended."Say Thai experts.
