The construction and operationalization of the Braşov-Ghimbav International Airport (AIBG) represents the most important investment objective assumed, financed and implemented by the Braşov County Council.

The mission of the county public authority was fulfilled on June 15, 2023, with the inauguration of the Airport, under the conditions in which the elements that make up the airport infrastructure were handed over to the administration of the Autonomous Administration "AIBG" RA, and the coordination, management and development of the air transport activity they are in charge of the executive management of the Airport.

The Braşov County Council continues to stand by the Braşov International Airport, both by allocating the necessary funding to cover the operating expenses of RA "AIBG", and by taking steps to extend the operating hours from 12 to 16 hours, starting from of January 15, 2024, decision adopted by the aeronautical regulatory authorities - ROMATSA and the Romanian Civil Aviation Authority.

Moreover, the president of the Braşov County Council, Şerban Todorică-Constantin, will do all the necessary diligence, so that the Braşov International Airport reaches the 24-hour operating schedule in the shortest possible time.

CJ Brasov: We support the activity of the Airport with everything that depends on us!

"We support the activity of the Airport with everything that depends on us, but within the limits imposed by law. We all want the best and most developed airport activity, but we must take into account that air operators are private companies that obey the laws of the market and economic profitability. The decisions regarding the restriction or development of air operations belong to them in total and are taken following their own economic and financial calculations. It is not up to us whether a private operator enters or exits the market. We, as a county public authority, will support any activity that supports the consolidation of Brasov Airport's position among the most important air transport facilities in our country", declared the president of the CJ Braşov, Şerban Todorică-Constantin.

The Braşov County Council is to finalize the procedure according to which the de minimis aid scheme can be granted to support the activity of air operators at the Braşov Airport, and in this sense the acceptance of the European Commission is needed.

The granting of this aid, which aims to stimulate airlines in order to increase passenger traffic and the number of destinations operated, as happens in the case of other county councils in the country that own airports, will also be carried out in Brasov, as soon as they are completed all stages provided by law.

"We trust that Brasov county has all the necessary assets from the point of view of economic development, tourism potential, the interest shown by both the business environment and citizens in using the airport facilities, so that it can be a bidder for Romanian and foreign air operators”, concluded the president CJ Braşov.
