On October 15, 2019, SWISS decided to land all Airbus A220 aircraft (formerly CSeries from Bombardier) for further checks. The unprecedented decision was made after an engine crashed on flight LX359 (London - Geneva).
While the Airbus A220-300 (HB-JCC) flew to Geneva, Switzerland, an engine stopped over Belgium. The pilots decided to divert the flight to Paris.
This is the 4th similar incident recorded by SWISS, after those on July 25 (Geneva - London diverted to Paris), on September 8 (Stockholm - Zurich diverted to Stuttgart), on September 16 (Geneva - London diverted to Geneva) .
And for the picture to be complete, similar incidents were recorded by Air Baltic aircraft. So we are not talking about an isolated incident, but a series of incidents
A220 SWISS planes, locked to the ground
Following the October 15 incident, SWISS decided to cancel flights with its A220 aircraft fleet. According to the operational program displayed by the Geneva airport, most of the scheduled flights with A220 SWISS aircraft were canceled. According to local media, SWISS could cancel up to 200 daily flights.
SWISS has 29 aircraft in the A220 family of aircraft (20 x A220-300 and 9 x A220-100). They are powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1524G engines. Ground recording is temporary and A220 aircraft are subject to additional checks, especially on engines.
According to Flightradar24, 2 A220 SWISS aircraft returned to operational service after the necessary checks. We are talking about the HB-JBI planes, which flew to London, and the HB-JCM, which flew to Paris.
