On Thursday, October 26, the Craiova airport authorities announced the reopening of the runway, with frequent flights to resume starting on October 29.

According to the president of the Dolj County Council, Cosmin Vasile, the operations carried out as part of the 110 million euro expansion and modernization project of the airport were necessary to increase the carrying capacity, meaning the increase of safety and the reduction of damages, in the event of a possible departure of the aircraft.

"On an area of almost 280.000 square meters, along the runway, the vegetation layer was uncovered and the land was treated with special solutions for protection and waterproofing. At the end, the soil and vegetation were resettled. Due to the complexity of the works and in order not to disrupt air traffic, between October 16-25, flights at Craiova International Airport were suspended. Regular flights will resume from October 29 and flights to Dortmund will resume from October 30", declared the president CJ Dolj.

The 110 million euro project for the modernization and expansion of Craiova Airport is the most important project of Dolj county as a development perspective.

"Around this area we already have two full industrial parks and we will build the third industrial park, which will be on 180 hectares. This will be a Just Transition project and we want to bring big investors there. It is 11 km from Ford, 9 km from the southern belt, it is strategically located, we have an area of intramodal transport connections: railway, air and connections with the Craiova-Pitesti express road", said the president of CJ Dolj, Cosmin Vasile, quoted by AGERPRES.
