On 29 October 2016, the planes Boeing 737 Lufthansa operated the last commercial flights. At 19: 35, the last one Boeing 737 (D-ABEF) landed in Frankfurt. It operated a flight on the Nuremberg - Frankfurt route, and there were 131 passengers on board.

Shortly before this flight, another three 737-300 arrived from Stuttgart, Geneva and Leipzig / Halle.

On 31 October 2016, after 48 years, Lufthansa said goodbye to Boeing 737 aircraft. The moment was marked by a special flight operated by the plane Boeing 737-300 D-ABEC ("Karlsruhe"). The aircraft operated the special flight LH9922 (Frankfurt - Hamburg).

In the 48 years of activity, Lufthansa had 148 Boeing 737 aircraft (-100, -200, -300, -400, -500) in the fleet. The peak was reached during the 1992-1993 period, when Lufthansa operated 110 Boeing 737 aircraft.

It all started at 19 in February 1965, when Lufthansa placed the order for 22 for Boeing 737-100 aircraft, being the first worldwide buyer of this type of aircraft. About three years later, at 4 February 1968, the first Boeing 737-100 landed in Hamburg. Then followed the 737-200 (first received in 1969), 737-300 (first received in 1986), Boeing 737-400 (1992) and Boeing 737-500 (1990) models.
