The scandal at Brașov Airport or how Dan Air works through cover-up!

Update: DAN Air is adjusting its flight schedule at the Brașov airport schedule!

The original news: In 50 years, in Romania, an airport built from scratch was inaugurated and it is in Brașov. In the year of grace 2023, when some nations are discussing the colonization of the planet Mars, an airport was inaugurated in Romania. Obviously, the great event was marked by the cutting of the ribbon and the associated consecration by a council of priests.

But even so, the scandals continue around Brasov airport. I believe that the sanctification did not take effect and did not cast out the evil spirits. In the big city at the foothills of Tâmpei, the airport was long awaited by the citizens and they all applauded the completion of this project.

The first routes from Brașov were also announced with great enthusiasm, and the campaign in question is Dan Air. With great pomp and fanfare, the new airline company with mioritic capital announced the first frequent flights from Brașov to several major cities in Europe, including Barcelona, London, Milan, Budapest, Munich, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, etc. There were also routes canceled before the launch, such as from Brașov to Milan and Budapest, but also from Bucharest to Munich, Rome, Milan and Budapest.

Dan Air jumped at ROMATSA's "neck".

The ribbon was not cut well at the airport either, because Dan Air jumped on ROMATSA's throat on the grounds that it does not ensure the supervision and management of flights after 19:XNUMX, accusing it of causing damages of hundreds of thousands of Euros (hapciu :)). It's just that Dan Air is playing the bluff here, looking for excuses to merge the flights from Brașov and Bucharest.

DAN Air knew about the Brasov airport schedule

What the Dan Air official did not say is that they knew about the schedule of the Brașov airport since March-April, when the last checks before certification were made. But Dan Air preferred to keep quiet, sell tickets, even do an aggressive marketing campaign selling thousands of tickets at a price of 50 euros each.

It should be noted that DAN Air has only one aircraft assigned to flights from Brașov and Bucharest, an Airbus A320-232 (YR-DSE). Two other DAN Air Airbus A320s (YR-JUL and YR-URS) fly for Air Serbia on several charter routes, from Belgrade to Antalya, Hurghada, Monastir, etc.

DAN Air accuses the Brașov authorities

The moment DAN Air saw that it was not winning its case with ROMATSA, it started to accuse the local authorities in Brașov, the director of DAN Air stating that he felt lied to of these because someone had promised him that he could also fly outside of schedule.

Brașov airport is certified by AACR for the hours 07-19 LT

According to the documents issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Romania, the airport in Brașov is authorized and certified to operate between 07:19 and XNUMX:XNUMX LT (local time), a schedule requested by the directorate that oversees the airport. ROMATSA does NOT make the schedule, but the airport itself. ROMATSA can provide contracted services based on the operating schedule.

The Brasov airport schedule was known since April

The schedule was also published in AIP Romania (Aeronautical Information Publication) as early as April 2023, and airlines had time to adjust their schedules. In addition, it is also written in the AIP that, in exceptional cases, an airline that wishes to operate outside of schedule must notify the airport at least 24 hours in advance. So Dan Air could have requested after hours operation and most likely the situation would have been resolved, but why not make a little scandal to mask other problems?

From the beginning, I was skeptical about the flights from Brasov, mainly because of the aggressive way of announcing the routes, many flights, with a lot of fuss. Something like that I experienced before in 2014 when FlyRomania it announced dozens of routes and in the end it turned out to be a big stake called Tender.

God help, DAN Air to stick to the schedule and flights as much as possible, even after 2024. Brașov airport can bring many benefits to the area, but also have reliable partners.

So stop the attacks on ROMATSA, with the idea that the airport should be open 24/7 or that x or y is sabotaging. NO, the airport can operate normally and properly even between 7-19 as long as the airlines can allocate the necessary planes to cover the flight interval. Currently, in addition to DAN Air flights, there are also charter flights that have been operated without problems. And since September, Wizz Air will fly from Brasov to Dortmund and London.

Yes, from the outside it seems true. But you, the one who publishes an article without previous entrepreneurial experience, do not realize that the company Dan Air, which has a safe plane in custody, is like a kind of start-up for the civil aeronautical space in Romania. Dan air must be helped by the state, by partners in order to he could invest the earnings towards the purchase of new aircraft or rental. Especially after the disappearance of Blue Air, it is necessary, but the state sleeps and does not offer support, it only helps you with the money haha, let it be obvious. And the exaggerated comments about the spiritual side have no place here, your native atheisms are of no interest to anyone, keep your opinion and die with it, I got far because God fulfilled EVERYTHING I asked for.

Being profitable does not mean many routes, with efficient flights, a correct schedule. If we are talking about entrepreneurship...

My goal is not to take sides. I'm just making a clarification. Yes, he knew he didn't have a traffic controller from ROMATSA. That's how he calculated. If you don't have traffic controllers, it doesn't mean you can't land and take off. The problem arises that ROMATSA has forbidden operation without it. Although the traffic volume is minimal.

Dan, what nonsense. Not Romatsa authorizes, but AACR. Legally, the airport is functional 7-19. For extra hours, the airline can request at the airport and if the airport receives approval from the AACR, it can give the green light for take-offs and landings with or without controllers, it also depends here. All in all, DAN Air is the only culprit for now

What are you talking about man!! Why must the Roma state help Dan Air and not me?! e.g.

      1. Sorin says

Well, who says you have to? It's just that they can be subsidies to attract airlines, to support regional development. In the present case, the situation could be avoided if DAN Air announces a schedule of flights included in the operating schedule of the airport. Brasov airport is not the only one that closes at 19 or 20.

The state is not allowed to help the airlines, in any way, because the European law, of which we are a part, does not allow such a thing. It would be unfair competition to other companies.
There were cases in Cyprus, in Germany, even here with Blue Air, and it ended with fines.
As for ROAMTSA, it does not have the right to, very carefully, PROVIDE AIR NAVIGATION SERVICES, either on the airways in flight, or in the approach areas in terminals, at airports, if the area or the airport is not authorized by the Civil Aeronautical Authority, which is the supreme body in the matter in Romania.
To conclude, as mentioned in the article, ROMATSA only provides services, does not grant favors, allows or forbids on its own that an aircraft take off/land at any airport in Romania.

          1. Sorin says

Correct what you say up to a point. The EU approves subsidies with the aim of attracting new airlines and supporting the opening of new routes. As for the other aspects, you are right. ROMATSA provides the services for which it was contracted, in accordance with the airport schedule. Changes cannot be made overnight. It should be known that an air traffic controller is trained and licensed in a certain area / airport. If until the opening, Brasov had program x, ROMATSA scaled the staff to that program. If overnight Brasov wants an extended program, ROMATSA cannot license overnight people to direct at night. It needs a few days / weeks of preparation.

And yet, there was also a charter flight with problems, when the HiSky plane was delayed. https://mytex.ro/expres/aeroportul-brasov-decolare-cu-autobuzul/

    1. Sorin says

Well, he was late, he didn't fit into the schedule... There are also inconveniences, but that doesn't justify the need for a permanently extended schedule at the airport. If the directorate that administers the airport considers that it has the money to financially support the costs for the evening shift as well, then request an extended program at the AACR

May God give health and strength to Dan Air's plane because they stay on those roads if it breaks down.
Now, we are talking about a company that has only one plane and that is pushing hard at Brasov airport because it has no competition for now! When other companies will come, then let's see if we hear anything from them!
I wouldn't trust to buy a ticket a few weeks in advance from a company that only has one plane! The risk of not making the trip is quite high!

    1. Sorin says

We appreciate that they struggle to do the job. We were waiting for the second plane to arrive :). At the moment, the other planes are making money in Poland :). But scandals are not good for anyone...
