Tourism in Spain - March 2022: 4 million tourists who spent 5 billion euros!

The Spanish government has announced tourism figures for March. The average expenditure of tourists visiting Spain was about 1257 euros per person, which marks an annual increase of 13,6% compared to the average spent in March 2019, which was 1068 EURO.

In a statement issued on May 5, the government also said that total spending in March 2022 was over 5 billion euros or 84% of pre-pandemic levels.

According to statistics, Spain has received 4 billion international tourists, which is 71% of the total number of visitors to Spain three years ago.

"The United Kingdom was the main source market in March 2022, with almost 826.399 tourists (18,3% of the total) and in terms of spending volume of about one billion euros (20,0% of the total)", it is shown in the communiqué. Germany is the second largest source of tourists for Spain, with 18.2% of all international tourists. Among the international tourists, they were also from Ireland, the United States or the Nordic countries.

In addition, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, said that Spain closes the first quarter of 2022 with good figures for tourism, a trend that is expected to intensify during the summer. 9.7 million tourists visited Spain in the first three months of 2022, an increase of about 700% compared to 2021, when there were 1.2 million international tourists. Regarding the money spent by tourists, Spain reported that they spent 11.8 billion EURO, up about 800% compared to 2021.

Among the regions most visited by international tourists, we have: Canary Islands (33.1%); Catalonia (14.8%); Madrid (14.5%). Andalusia is in the top five tourist regions in Spain, with about 600 tourists visiting in March.

At the same time, the authorities are optimistic about Q2 (April-June), a quarter in which 29 million seats are available on international flights, plus the influences of Easter Week.
