Three years of HiSky activity: 2,5 million passengers and 28 destinations!

The air operator HiSky marks, at the beginning of March, the anniversary of its first three years of activity on the air transport market. The balance sheet of the three years places HiSky in the top of the fastest ascents in the industry both in terms of the number of passengers transported, as well as the expansion of the fleet and the number of destinations.

For the following period, the company that reintroduced, after 20 years, direct flights to the USA, established the maintenance of the development direction, with a firm strategy for the accumulation of market share, by increasing the capabilities and the number of routes operated.

A number of 2,5 million passengers have been transported by the airline, from March 2021 to date, with an increase of 170% in 2023, over the figures reported after the first two years of operation, which have a a total of 900.000 passengers.

The total number of flights operated, regular and charter, was 20.000, with a cumulative duration of over 45.000 flight hours.

During the last year, three new aircraft entered the HiSky fleet, reaching at this moment an operating capacity of eight aircraft and a total number of 1500 seats available. Seven of the eight aircraft are narrow body type, with a single aisle, and belong to the Airbus 320 family, namely one A319 aircraft, three A320 and two A321 LR, manufactured in 2023, the first of this type registered in Romania, with an autonomy non-stop flight of up to 7400 kilometers, the longest distance traveled by an aircraft of this class.

At the end of 2023, the first wide-body aircraft, with two colors and an autonomy of over 13.400 km, entered the fleet, marking a new first, the first Airbus A330-200 operated under Romanian registration.

Also in 2023, HiSky received the right to operate regular flights to the United States of America and thus became the only Romanian company, which simultaneously holds the Foreign Air Operator's Certificate and the ability to fly across the ocean, non-stop. The first flights to New York's JFK airport are scheduled to begin on June 7 this year.

HiSky flies from its bases in Cluj, Bucharest and Chisinau

As an operator of regular flights, HiSky reached, after the first three years, a portfolio of 28 total routes, departing from the three operational bases in Bucharest, Cluj Napoca and Chisinau and from the airports of Timișoara, Iași and Baia Mare .

Regarding charter flights, the company maintained its position as the main supplier for the market in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, with over 8000 flights operated, in partnership with the main travel agencies, to the most popular holiday destinations. With the expansion of capacity, destinations such as Krabi, Thailand, the Maldives, Zanzibar or Mombasa became accessible with a direct flight from Romania.

In 2023, HiSky airline climbed to fourth place in the list of the largest operators at Romanian airports, after the national company and the two most important low cost operators. For the fourth year of its existence, HiSky plans to consolidate its position in the market and the first transatlantic route, but also to exploit the ability to operate long-haul flights, by launching new regular flights to distant destinations.
