Wizz Air transported 8.5 million passengers from/to Romania in 2022!

Wizz Air, the fastest growing airline in Europe and the most environmentally sustainable globally, announces its outstanding operational results for 2022 in Romania, consolidating its leading position in the domestic market.

The number of passengers carried by Wizz Air to and from Romania in 2022 is over 8,5 million. Globally, over 45 million passengers have chosen Wizz Air in 2022, almost twice as much as in 2021 (27,1 million passengers) and 10% more than in 2019 (41 million passengers). The airline's fleet size has grown to 177 aircraft.

Thanks to constant investments and full dedication to its customers in Romania, Wizz Air has transported a high number of passengers, totaling almost four million passengers in Bucharest, followed by Cluj with almost two million passengers and Iasi registering a significant increase compared to the pre-pandemic period, with over a million people transported in the last year.

In 2022, Wizz Air increased the number of routes operated from Romania the 189, 29 new routes in the last year alone.

Operating from eight Romanian bases in 2022, Bacau, Cluj-Napoca, Craiova, Bucharest, Iasi, Sibiu, Suceava and Timișoara, to a total of 74 destinations in 22 countries, Wizz Air is the largest air carrier in the country. The company continues to deliver on its promise to provide affordable travel opportunities and contribute to the development of Romania's tourism sector and is ready to further accelerate and expand its operations. Bucharest has become the largest operational base of Wizz Air in the entire network, due to the recent allocation of of the 16th aircraft, in December 2022.

New Wizz Air routes launched in 2022

In 2022, Wizz Air introduced five new routes from Cluj "Avram Iancu" International Airport to Corfu, Naples, Perugia, Leeds and Tirana, 12 new routes from "Henri Coandă" Bucharest International Airport to Aarhus, Ancona, Athens, Milan, Larnaca, Prague, Preveza-Aktion, Rimini, Leeds, Riyadh, Jeddah and Cardiff.

Iasi passengers can now enjoy three recently added routes to Memmingen, Basel and Copenhagen, and the Craiova base enjoys two interesting destinations to Billund and Tirana. The youngest Romanian base, opened in Suceava on December 15, 2022, operates seven new flights to Rome, Brussels, Venice, Larnaca, Paris, Eindhoven and Tel-Aviv.
