Austrian Airlines will cancel all direct flights from the UK to Austria, starting June 1, due to fears about the new Indian strain of the virus. This is not the first time that Austria has taken such measures. It also banned direct flights to and from the UK in December 2020, as the Kent version had begun to spread widely. The ban was lifted on March 21, the date when the United Kingdom showed signs that it can control the COVID-19 pandemic.

Austrian Airlines will abandon the route Vienna - Manchester!

The new ban will take effect on June 1 and will affect services operated by Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Ryanair and easyJet, among others. Only Austrian citizens will be allowed to enter the country, according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health. Anyone arriving from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will need to prove that they have been vaccinated, have recovered from a coronavirus infection in the last six months, or provide evidence of a negative PCR test.

According to information provided by Austrian Airlines, it will only be possible to operate passenger flights from Vienna to London Heathrow, not return. At the same time, Austrian Airlines will temporarily abandon the Vienna-Manchester route.
