On Wednesday, employees of the Ryanair base in Vienna received bad news. The Irish carrier will close the Vienna base, which consists of a 3 x Boeing 737-800, at the end of the year.

This has serious consequences for staff. Either they will agree to be relocated to RYANAIR bases in Dublin, Athens or Thessaloniki, or they will lose their jobs and thus their income. The Vienna base was opened in 2018 and was dedicated to the Laudamotion subsidiary.

It is unknown at this time how many Ryanair employees at the Vienna base are affected, with some already laid off due to the pandemic. It is known that at the base in Vienna were assigned 3 Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Therefore, Ryanair's subsidiaries - Lauda Europe and Buzz - will still be able to fly to Vienna after 1 January 2021. We note that the Vienna base is being closed, but operations will not be stopped.

It will be possible to fly Malta Air and Ryanair DAC flights to / from Vienna. They are not stationed in the federal capital, but fly to Vienna from other bases. For example from Luqa (Malta) to Vienna or from Bergamo (Italy) to Vienna.
