Antitrust, the Italian competition monitoring company, announced on Wednesday that it is provisionally suspending the new hand luggage policy at Ryanair (RYA.I) and Wizz Air (WIZZ.L), due to come into effect on 1 November 2018.

The Italian Antitrust Authority has suspended the new luggage policy

Under the new policy, it is possible to carry only small luggage free of charge, which will be placed exclusively in the space under the front seat, while for hand luggage a surcharge is required, which is nevertheless a non-contingent and foreseeable fee. for the passenger. This should be included in the standard rate.

As a result, charging a fee for an essential element of the airline contract, such as hand luggage, gives a false perspective on the actual ticket price and prevents comparison with other companies' tariffs, misleading the consumer.

Therefore, Ryanair and Wizz Air will have to temporarily suspend all activities aimed at charging an additional fee - in relation to the standard fare - for the transport of "large hand luggage".

Companies must notify the Authority, within 5 days, of the measures taken in accordance with the decision.

CAREFUL!!! We are talking about the Italian authorities and a temporary suspension in Italy. We are waiting for the official positions of the 2 airlines.
