A Boeing 737-500 operated by Tatarstan Airlines crashed at Kazan Airport, Russia (video)

17 November 2013 was not a lucky one for 50 people on board a Boeing 737-500 aircraft operated by Tatarstan Airlines. It operated the 363 flight connecting Moscow to Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan.

The Boeing 737-500 (VQ-BBN) took off from Moscow's Domodedovo Airport (DME) at local time 18: 20, in the direction of Kazan. The latest accident information shows that the plane crashed near the runway at Kazan Airport, around 19: 20, the aircraft caught fire following the impact with the ground.

Russian media reports that all occupants of the aircraft (44 passengers and 6 crew members) have died. The causes are still unknown and an investigation has been opened. The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency said the plane tried three times to land before the accident. The hypothesis of a technical failure is not excluded.

The Boeing 737-500 (VQ-BBN) was 23 years old and 5 months old. In 2005, this aircraft was also in the Blue Air fleet (YR-BAB). The first flight operated on 18 June 1990. It was powered by two CFM56-3B1 engines.
