A Boeing 737-800 FlySafair lost a wheel on takeoff!

On 21 April, FlySafair Boeing 737-800 (registered ZS-FGE) was due to operate domestic flight FA212 between Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa, but an accident caused the aircraft to return to its departure airport.

During takeoff, the aircraft's left main wheel fell off. Ground personnel were able to determine the damage and inform the pilots. The crew aborted the climb at 22.000 feet and entered a hold to consume fuel.

190 minutes after initial takeoff and after a visual inspection by air traffic control, the Boeing 737-800 aircraft landed on runway 21R. No one was injured during the accident.
