Brasov Airport will be operational from November 1, 2022! The first flights could be operated by Wizz Air!

Brasov International Airport - Ghimbav will be operational starting with November 1 of this year, announced, two weeks ago, the representatives of the Brasov County Council, announce bizbrasov.ro.

Alexandru Anghel, the executive director of the Airport Implementation Department within Braşov County Council, declared for BizBrașov that the mentioned date does not mean that it will be the date of the first flight. "Careful! I said that from November 1, 2021, the airport will become operational, not when the first flight will take place. The first flight depends on the air operators, because if they don't have customers, they won't fly for air ", says Anghel. Specifically, the airport could be used from November 1, on a theoretical level. Basically, the date of the first flight is still unknown.

However, talks have been held with several airlines, with four of them starting meetings - Wizz Air, Lufthansa (with its low-cost segments - Eurowings or Lufthansa Regional), Tarom and Blue Air.. "With Wizz Air we have the most advanced discussions, which gave us a list of 15 destinations that would operate from Brasov. We are in the stage where they even sent us the contract to go through it and, later, to sign it ", Alexandru Anghel explained. He would also hold meetings with the other airlines in the coming days, he said.

It is expected that in the beginning it will be possible to operate up to 40 flights per week, following that the number will increase with the introduction of charter flights.
