Air Canada canceled almost 10% of scheduled flights from Toronto Pearson in the first week of June. These cancellations are split between departures and arrivals that took place between June 1 and June 7, according to Cirium, an aviation data processor.

Peter Fitzpatrick, an Air Canada spokesman, told CTV News Toronto that Pearson International Airport, in particular, has been hit by larger problems that hinder the normal flow of passengers at airports and for airline operations.

These challenges include staff shortages, longer security times, customs and recurrent limitations on air traffic control. "These can have side effects not only for our customers, but also for the resources and operations of our employees.Said Fitzpatrick.

Although Fitzpatrick acknowledged that these issues put a lot of pressure on the company, he said that Air Canada currently carries more than 100.000 passengers a day.

Meanwhile, WestJet data show that about 2% of their departures and 3% of their flights to Pearson were canceled in the first week of June.
