This year, Air France proudly marks 90 years of elegance, sophistication, technology, innovation and comfort on board its aircraft, 90 years of travel, gastronomy, design, haute couture, art and architecture. Since its founding on October 7, 1933, Air France has promoted French excellence and that "Je ne sais quoi" that defines France throughout the world, translated into memorable travel experiences.

This special anniversary was celebrated in an extraordinary setting – at The Marmorosch Bucharest Hotel, Autograph Collection, with gratitude for 90 years of elegance and anticipation for many wonderful years to come.

"It is a real honor to participate in the celebration of the 90th anniversary of Air France, right here, at the headquarters of the Marmorosch Hotel in Bucharest, the former location of the Marmorosch Bank. This bank indirectly contributed to the emergence of Air France, thanks to the support given by the Romanian banker Aristide Blank, who was one of the main artisans of the establishment of the Franco-Romanian Air Navigation Company (CFRNA).

I wish to welcome the historic cooperation between France and Romania, a cooperation symbolized by aviation pioneers such as Henri Coandă and Louis Blériot. The presence of both airlines, Air France and Tarom, in the Skyteam alliance is a testament to this lasting bond.

I am delighted to see that Air France, as an official partner of the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris, continues to be an ambassador of France's expertise in tourism and the ability to organize events of international importance. " declared his Excellency, the Ambassador of France in Romania, Mr. Nicholas Warner.

A virtual tribute to 90 years of elegance

For this special occasion, Air France staged a virtual fashion show, a modern and sustainable tribute to the iconic uniforms worn by cabin crew over the past 90 years. In addition to traditional fashion shows, which involve the actual transportation of creations, Air France has chosen to bring the elegance of the past into the present through a 3D fashion show, without the need for the physical presence of the models.

The 3D fashion show offered viewers an immersive journey through the nine decades of Air France history and evoked the spirit of classic fashion shows. This highlighted not only the evolution of flight attendant uniforms but also our commitment to combine style with function.

"For a company to reach such a milestone as Air France's 90th anniversary in a healthy way, two key elements are needed: loyal customers and exceptional employees! What has made the history of Air France so distinctive is our ability to create a genuine connection between these two factors and to offer special services and special moments. I am extremely proud of all the Air France employees who made history and those who continue to contribute to it every day." said Bas 't Hooft, General Manager Alps & Central Europe

"I am extremely proud and excited to celebrate this anniversary together with our customers and partners in a special location and to see how the past and the future merge in a perfect way, using the elegance of the most modern technology, as we have done and we will always does on Air France.” declared Răzvan Răduț, Air France Romania Country Sales Manager.

A look at a historical legacy

The screening featured the first Air France suit worn by flight attendants in 1946, designed by Georgette Renal, bearing military influences and traces of a bygone era. We witnessed the transformation to a more elegant and feminine style, exemplified by the Georgette de Trèze suit from 1951. The show continued with iconic uniforms created by Christian Dior and Balenciaga, highlighting the deep connection between Air France and haute couture.

The film captured the spirit of the decades with costumes such as the 1976 Concorde dress designed by Jean Patou, the 1978 Carven 'Tropical' dress, the 1987 Louis Feraud summer dress and one of Air France's best-loved pieces, the Frigate dress since 1987, created by Carven.

Recent costumes in the show included the Nina Ricci summer suit from 1997 and the blue Christian Lacroix summer dress from 2005, which redefined Air France uniforms.

Serving in style

From the elegant and classic styles of the early XNUMXth century to today's modern designs, uniforms have always represented the essence of French elegance and sophistication.

Over the decades, Air France has always prioritized passenger safety, comfort and providing top-notch onboard service. This dedication has transformed Air France into a symbol of French confidence, reliability and elegance in the airline industry.
