France could become the first country in Europe with air taxi services. Paris is trying to get all the approvals to launch such electric transport by July 2024, when it will host the Olympics.
The skies of Paris could soon be dotted with such flying cars if all goes according to plan. For this reason, the first vertiports in Europe were built in France, i.e. airports for Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing Aircraft (eVTOL).
Damian Kysely, Skyports Infrastructure Manager: “You will be able to check in here. We need to know that you are the right person at the right time. Here is our little passenger lounge. About 5 minutes before departure, they will be asked to board the air taxi. And here they have to pass another biometric gate. They are then allowed to board."
Five so-called vertiports were built in Paris. One of them is in the center of the city, on a floating barge on the Seine. The new flying cars, with an electric motor, are four times quieter than helicopters, according to the project coordinators, inform euronews.ro.
Officials in Paris chose Volocopter's two-seater aircraft for the new taxi services. But the German company has not yet received approval from the European Aviation Safety Agency.
