Airlines are reacting to the second lockdown in the UK

Airlines have canceled dozens of flights and called for additional government support after The UK has announced plans to enter a second lockdown. The measures come for a period of one month, following the increase in COVID-19 cases.

The new restrictions, which take effect on November 5, will ban non-essential international travel for UK residents. Residents will be able to travel only for studies, in the interest of work, to solve legal problems or in exceptional cases.

The restrictions were initially set for a month, but ministers have suggested they could be extended if the virus does not stop spreading. They apply to both international and domestic flights.

Domestic flights from November 5 to December 2 will be canceled  

Thus, the airlines have to change their international flight schedule for the quarantine period imposed by the Government. Most likely, all domestic flights will be canceled.

Ryanair reported losses of nearly $ 200 million in the first half of the fiscal year, and the number of passengers has dropped dramatically, by more than 80%, from 86 to 17 million. Next year, the airline estimates it will carry about 38 million passengers. The number may decrease, depending on the evolution of the virus, but also on the restrictions imposed by each country.

Tarom and British Airways have already suspended flights between Bucharest and London.
