The passenger traffic recorded in the first month of the year keeps Iași Airport in second place in the top regional airports in Romania, getting closer to Cluj Airport, which has 28 thousand more passengers, at the same time taking a lead considerably compared to Timișoara Airport, with over 100 thousand passengers.
According to the data provided by the Romanian Airports Association, 179,460 passengers traveled to Iași Airport in January, their number increasing by approximately 49% compared to the same period last year and by 88% compared to the first month of the pre-pandemic year. The passenger traffic in the first month of this year reached the value of that recorded in the peak period of 2022, for example, the month of August having just over 180 thousand passengers.

The data are very optimistic considering that the first two months of the year, in aviation, are weaker in terms of traffic. The estimate for the entire year 2024 is over 2 million passengers, with Iași Airport ending 2023 with a traffic of 2,350,000 passengers, which was predicted by specialists just over 15 years ago.
From March 31, 2024, the new terminal of IASI Airport will become operational, having a minimum processing capacity of 3,5 million passengers per year. Terminal #T4 will serve flights to Schengen countries as well as domestic flights.
