What do Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, have in common? Romania, Slovenia? They have COVID-19 in industrial quantities. Unfortunately, the EU Health Agency has classified these countries as the most affected and risky in Europe. They have been placed on the dark red list, with more than 500 new cases per 100 inhabitants identified in the last two weeks.

Consequently, travel to one of these areas is highly discouraged, especially for those who have not been vaccinated or recovered after infection with the new coronavirus.

At the opposite pole are many regions of Spain, France and Italy, which are colored green. Based on the latest map update, which was published on 21 October by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), only Malta and most regions in Spain, France and Italy remain on the green list.

  • Regions of Spain: Galicia, Asturias, Castile and Leon, Extremadura, Andalusia, La Rioja, Navarra, Murcia, Valencia, Canary Islands;
  • Regions of France: Normandy, Hauts-de-France, Grand Est, Occitanie, Réunion, Mayotte;
  • Regions of Italy: Liguria, Piedmont, Aosta, Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Umbria, Lazio, Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia, Basilicata, Sardinia.

The countries and regions colored in green are those that have registered less than 50 new cases of COVID-19 per 100.000 inhabitants and have had a test positivity rate of less than 4% in the last two weeks.

Therefore, travel in these countries / regions is safe, which means that people traveling to or from Malta and the other regions listed above are generally exempt from entry restrictions as long as they hold the EU COVID-19 digital certificate. or other equivalent documents.
