With an estimated value of 65 million euros and a completion date that coincides with the end of this year, the Sibiu International Airport expansion site has reached the halfway point. Both the authorities and the builder give assurances that the deadline will be respected, so that the non-refundable European money contracted for this investment will not be lost, informs turnulsfatului.ro.

"We are at an advance of approximately 48% of the works, in total", says Marius Gîrdea, the General Director of the Airport, while he was in one of the two new buildings that will be integrated into the Sibiu terminal.

The statement was made at midday on Wednesday, when the contract between the Sibiu County Council and the association led by the Sibiians from Con-A and of which Bog`Art and UTI are also part, was reached Facility Management.

Design and execution contract signed for the amount of 48,5 million euros a year ago and which has now reached the value of 64,4 million euros, as a result of the indexations generated by the increase in prices on the construction market. 85% of these funds are non-reimbursable and attracted through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program, within which expenses are only eligible this year (hence the deadline for completing the works on December 31, 2023).

According to the constructors from Con-A, the biggest risk in meeting the deadline is the delivery deadline of the equipment that will operate at Sibiu Airport, but this risk has started to decrease as a result of the fact that the deliveries for this equipment have already started . "We are halfway through the contractual term and the works have also reached the halfway point. Fears that the work could be delayed are increasingly dispelled. We trust that the deadline will be met”, said Daniela Cîmpean, president of the Sibiu County Council, the institution under which the Sibiu airport operates.

In November, Sibiu International Airport will be closed for one day for the completion of work on the baggage conveyor belts. Until then, however, passengers will notice the changes generated by the site as a result of moving some flows into the newly built spaces. The order of which will be preserved, in the sense that the departure areas will be in the city-facing part of the terminal, and the arrival areas will be in the western part, towards Cristian.
