IndiGo has placed a record aircraft order at the 2023 Paris Air Show

IndiGo, India's largest airline by market share, has placed a firm order for 500 A320 family aircraft, setting the record for the largest single order in commercial aviation history. The latest deal brings the total number of Airbus aircraft ordered by IndiGo to 1.330, establishing its position as the world's largest customer for the A320 family.

The purchase agreement was signed by Rahul Bhatia, promoter and managing director of IndiGo; Dr. Venkataramani Sumantran, Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director of IndiGo; Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo; Guillaume Faury, Airbus CEO and Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, at the Paris Air Show 2023.

IndiGo, orders for 1330 Airbus A320 aircraft

Headquartered in New Delhi, IndiGo is among the world's fastest growing airlines. Since the first A320neo aircraft was delivered in March 2016, IndiGo's Airbus A320 fleet has grown to become one of the largest in the world, with 264 aircraft in service (162 x A320neo, 79 x A321neo, 21 x A320ceo and 2 x cargo A321).

IndiGo started placing orders for A320 aircraft as early as 2005 (100 x A320), then in 2011 (180 x A320), in 2014 (250 x A320) and in 2019 (300 x A320neo), bringing the total order to 830 aircraft from the A320 family. To which we add the 500 planes ordered these days.

Worldwide, the A320 family is the undisputed leader in the single-aisle category. The aircraft has the widest single-aisle cabin incorporating the latest technologies. It features improved aerodynamics and state-of-the-art engines, resulting in significant reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. With more than 8.700 orders from more than 130 customers, the A320neo family is preferred by airlines worldwide for all business models.
