Half of Romanian passengers travel to intercontinental destinations
According to AIR FRANCE KLM, approximately 47% of Romanian passengers, who fly to the Paris - Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam - Schiphol hubs, travel further to intercontinental destinations.
AIR FRANCE Group - KLM currently operating 4 daily flights departing from Romania in the winter program (2 to Amsterdam and 2 to Paris) and 6 flights in the summer program (3 to Amsterdam and 3 to Paris). They also add flights operated in partnership with Tarom, a member of the same airline alliance, Skyteam.
They are transported weekly to Paris and Amsterdam over 5000 of passengers in peak season. Of these, approximately 47% travel to intercontinental destinations. North America and the Caribbean area among the favorite destinations for Romanian passengers.
Romanians choose destinations in North America
The United States and Canada are in the top of the intercontinental destinations chosen in the 2016 year by the Romanian passengers. The most searched cities on the North American continent are: New York, Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Montreal and Toronto.
An increase in the number of Romanian tourists is also recorded on flights to destinations in the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean, Dominican Republic, Cuba and Mauritius, being the favorite destinations for Romanians in these regions.
To complete the list of Air France destinations in the Indian Ocean, starting with 1 November 2017 Air France will operate 2 weekly flights to the capital of Maldives, Malé. The flight will be operated by Boeing 777-200 aircraft, equipped with the latest Air France cabin.
Against the backdrop of events in Turkey, a destination that met the demands of tourists who enjoy exclusive services, Air France-KLM anticipates an increase in the number of Romanian passengers who will choose to spend their vacation in exotic destinations in the Caribbean and Indian Ocean area, but also Africa (Zanzibar) or Southeast Asia (Bali).
Investments in the fleet
Both Air France and KLM are in the process of renewing their aircraft fleet, either by purchasing new aircraft or by modernizing their existing ones.
Thus, in the year 2016, KLM expanded its fleet with 6 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft and 4 Embraer 175 aircraft. It has introduced flights to 14 new destinations and carried over 30 millions of passengers. According to Bloomberg, KLM is the safest and most punctual airline in the world.
In 2017, Air France will introduce the second one Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the first operating since January.
The Air France-KLM Group plans 27 new destinations in 2017, the most interesting for the Romanian passengers being: Porto, Marrakech, Minneapolis and Cartagena (Colombia).
