2017 will be the year of Norwegian. On 6 December, 2016, the air carrier Norwegian Air International (NAI) (subsidiary Norwegian Air Shuttle) received the consent of the United States authorities to operate transatlantic flights. The agreement will pave the way for new flights operated between destinations in Ireland (Cork and Shannon) and the east coast of the United States.
Operational bases in the United States
The routes will be operated with NAI crews from two US bases, but also from European bases. In the summer of 2017, Norwegian will open its operational base at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. And if it still receives the necessary authorization from DOT (Norwegian Department of Transportation), Norwegian plans to open 1-2 operational bases in the United States. On this occasion, NAI will employ approximately 150 of pilots and flight attendants for US bases.
It should be noted that Norwegian received authorization for the Irish subsidiary - Norwegian Air International (NAI) - after 3 years of waiting. The UK branch still has a long way to go.
The new routes, to be operated from Cork and Shannon, will be launched next summer and will serve the East Coast areas of America, Boston and New York. More information will be released in the spring of 2017.
Initially, the flights will be operated by Boeing 737-800 aircraft, and will be replaced by the new Boeing 737 MAX. Norwegian is the launch customer for the new type of aircraft from Boeing. 2 aircraft will be received in May 2017, with other 4 arriving in Norwegian fleet in June 2017.
Let's not forget that Norwegian is flying, using its parent company license, across the Atlantic. Operates daily flights between destinations in Europe (London, Paris, Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen) and destinations in the United States (New York, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Orlando (from 31 to July 2017), etc.).
