Over 200.000 euros discovered in a man's checked luggage at Henri Coandă International Airport

The border police officers from the Henri Coandă Airport Border Police Point, together with customs workers, discovered in a man's checked luggage, the amount of 205.000 euros that the person tried to smuggle into the country.

On 01.03.2024, at around 14.00:42 p.m., at the Henri Coandă International Airport Border Crossing Point, a XNUMX-year-old Romanian citizen man presented himself to enter the country, from the direction of Castellon - Spain.

The border police together with the customs workers carried out a thorough check on the man's luggage. Thus, three bags containing 500, 200 and 100 euro banknotes were discovered inside the checked baggage, totaling the total amount of 205.000 euro.

Since he could not justify the amount of money and there were suspicions that it could be the product of criminal activities, the currency was detained in order to continue investigations and take legal measures.

European legislation provides that every person who enters or leaves the European Union member countries and holds a cash amount of at least 10.000 euros or its equivalent in another currency, is obliged to declare that amount to the customs authorities.
