The airport in the heart of Moldova, the strongest airport in the NE area and the second in terms of traffic among regional airports in Romania, registers a new record in terms of the number of passengers transported in a calendar year.
From the beginning of the year until now, Iași Airport has been transited by 2 million passengers, being the first time it manages to reach this level. The first one million passengers boarded and disembarked this year were at the end of June, so that in the first ten months of the year there was a traffic of 1,947 million passengers, and today, November 10, the new threshold of 2 millions.
Iasi Airport reports for the first time in its history 2 million passengers in one year
The result was marked by an event dedicated to the 2 millionth passenger registered in 2023 at Iași Airport, which was celebrated in a festive setting. He arrived in Iasi on a Wizz Air plane, on the flight from Brussels (Charleroi), 20 minutes earlier than the scheduled time. The passenger with the lucky number is called Victor Daniel Simionescu, he is from Farcașa, Neamț county, and has been living in Luxembourg for several years.
He found out from the plane, just before landing, that he was designated as First Passenger with no. 2 Million at Iasi Airport, being awarded by the Wizz Air crew with a symbolic voucher. On the aircraft platform, after disembarking, he was greeted by the representatives of the Airport and the County Council, who congratulated him and awarded him. The event was attended by the Director of the Airport, Romeo Vatră, and the President of the County Council, Costel Alexe, the Vice President Sorin Afloarei, the County Administrator, Andrei Cazacu, as well as representatives of collaborating institutions.
Iasi Aiport's partners joined the award ceremony: Hotel Unirea, which offered the winning passenger a gift voucher, worth 500 lei, valid for any type of service within the complex, as well as the Best Value duty free store, which also offered several products. The event included a photo session with Passenger 2 Million, together with the flight crew and guests, culminating in the cutting of the themed cake inside the airport.
