With a delay of over 1.5 years, the suspension bridge over the Danube in Brăila will be inaugurated on July 6, 2023. After several postponements, the date on which the bridge over the Danube in Brăila will be inaugurated has been set for July 6.

"It's true, but this new postponement is not because of technical problems, but because President Klaus Iohannis is expected to participate," said Libertatea sources.

Work on the bridge started 5 years ago and was supposed to be ready in 2021. The contract was signed in January 2018, and the initial completion date was 2021. Later, several completion dates were advanced, but they did not were respected. Even now, not all the roads provided in the original plan are ready.

The suspension bridge over the Danube, nicknamed "Golden Gate" by Brăila, will have a length of 2 kilometers, half of which represents the central opening, to which are added two side openings of 489 meters on the bank from Brăila and 364 meters on the bank from Tulcea

The height of the bridge will be 200 meters, and the total width of 31 meters, and it will include four traffic lanes of 3,5 meters width each. At the time of completion, the suspension bridge over the Danube from Brăila will be the largest bridge in Romania and the third in Europe in terms of central span and length.

The bridge over the Danube is the most expensive construction of its kind in the history of Romania, with an estimated value of 500 million euros, and the second infrastructure project along the Danube, after the Iron Gates.
