While the south of Europe is "frying on low heat", with record temperatures of 48.2 degrees Celsius, several countries in central Europe are experiencing violent storms.

Strong storms and hail the size of tennis balls continue to wreak havoc in northern Italy, but also in Slovenia. Thousands of lightning bolts lit up the sky in Milan overnight, while in the Veneto region strong winds and hail caused huge property damage.

Strong gusts of wind uprooted trees, while large chunks of ice damaged cars, windows of houses and even caused power outages in several towns. The storms also reached Slovenia, where they wreaked the same havoc.

Meanwhile, in Sicily, it was a fiery night. More fires broke out in Palermo, Syracuse and other areas of the island where hundreds of people were evacuated. Firefighters are trying to put out the fire, but temperatures of over 47 degrees Celsius and gusts of wind make their mission difficult.

If you have vacations planned in Europe, find out about the weather conditions in the destination area and proximity.
