Greece maintains a red code for heatwave and major fire danger! See the areas affected and at risk of fires!

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs Romanian citizens who are in, transiting or intend to travel to Greece that the local authorities maintain the forecasts regarding the red heat code (July 25-27, 2023), respectively the major danger of wildfires (degrees 4 and 5, on a scale from 1 to 5), as follows:

1. For July 25, 2023:

  • State of alert (risk category 5, extreme fire level) for Crete Region (Rethymno, Heraklion and Lashiti counties), South Aegean Sea (Rhodes Island); – it should be noted that not all areas are affected. The northern part of the island of Rhodes is open for tourism!
  • Very high fire risk (risk category 4) for Attica Region, Central Greece Region, North Aegean Region (Samos Islands, Ikaria), South Aegean Region (Karpathos Islands, Kalymnos, Kos), Thessalia Region (Larissa, Magnisia), Crete Island (Chania), Peloponnese Peninsula, Ionian Islands, Western Greece.

2. For July 26, 2023:

  • State of alert (risk category 5, extreme fire level) for Attica Region, Central Greece (Boeotia, Evia, Fthiotida, Fokida), Peloponnese Peninsula (Argolides, Corinth area), Western Greece) Achaia region, Thessalia region, (Larissa, Magnisia), Central Macedonia (Thessaloniki);
  • Very high fire risk (risk category 4) for Crete Island, Peloponnese Peninsula (Arcadia, Lakonia, Messinia), Ionian Islands archipelago, Western Greece (Aitoloakarnania, Ilia), Thessalia Region (Karditsa, Trikala), Central Macedonia (Pieria, Imathia, Pella, Kilkis, Serres, Halkidiki, Mount Athos).

Tourists are advised to inform themselves before starting the trip!

Taking into account the fact that in the last period of time, due to extreme weather conditions, several forest fires are ongoing on the territory of the Hellenic Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Romanian citizens inform themselves, before starting their trip, about the existing situation and avoid moving to areas where there are outbreaks of fires in progress or an imminent risk of their occurrence.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that Romanian citizens who are in an area where there is a fire to strictly follow the instructions of the local authorities and to constantly follow the official sources of public information.

Travel cautiously and avoid fire areas

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds Romanian citizens that Greek legislation prohibits and severely sanctions any outdoor activity that may produce sparks or fire and thus generate the appearance of a fire outbreak.

Romanian citizens in Greece who observe a fire can immediately report the event by calling 112 (single emergency number) or 199 (fire service).

Romanian citizens can request consular assistance at the telephone numbers of the Romanian Embassy in Athens: +302106710035 and the Consulate General of Romania in Thessaloniki: +302310340088, the calls being redirected to the Contact and Support Center of Romanian Citizens Abroad (CCSCRS) and taken over by to Call Center operators, on a permanent basis.

Also, Romanian citizens facing a difficult, special, emergency situation have at their disposal the permanent telephone number of the diplomatic mission of Romania in the Hellenic Republic: +306978996222 and the Consulate General of Romania in Thessaloniki: +306946049076.
