Wizz Air celebrates a record number of passengers between June and August, carrying almost 13 million passengers during the peak summer months. This represents a 79% increase over the previous year.

Over the summer, Wizz Air continued to expand its network, adding 63 new routes to 38 diverse and exciting destinations in Europe and beyond. The airline received 13 new Airbus aircraft between June and August, the fleet reaching 165 aircraft. Since June, Wizz Air has continued its expansion strategy in Europe and Romania, expanding its operations and hosting dozens of recruitment events in our country alone.

The airline welcomed its 12th aircraft to its Bucharest base in July 2022 and announced further 5 aircraft that will join its fleet in Bucharest between October and December 2022, bringing the total to 17 aircraft.

These additions to Bucharest supported the launch of new routes from "Henri Coandă" International Airport to Ancona, Cardiff, Riyadh, Jeddah, Athens, Prague and Larnaca, but also the reopening of routes to Aqaba and Gran Canaria.

Wizz Air also welcomed its 7th aircraft to its Cluj-Napoca base in August 2022. It launched new routes from Avram Iancu International Airport to Perugia, Corfu, Turin and Naples and reopened the route to Abu Dhabi.

The airline opened a new base in Suceava, allocating it 2 aircraft and announcing five new routes to Paris-Beauvais, Brussels-Charleroi, Venice-Treviso, Larnaca and Eindhoven. Another aircraft was allocated to the Iasi base, along with three routes to Memmingen, Basel-Mulhouse and Copenhagen.

Two more new routes have been added to its regional operations, destinations Turin and Billund are now available from Craiova. Following these summer expansions, Wizz Air added 2,6 million additional seats to the Romanian market at the beginning of September.

The airline's ultra-modern and efficient fleet reinforces its position as one of the world's most sustainable airlines and will enable Wizz Air to further reduce its environmental footprint by 25% per passenger kilometer by the end of the decade.
