On October 18, an Aerolineas Argentinas Airbus A330-200 (registered LV-FVH) operated flight AR1133 between Madrid, Spain, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Over the Atlantic Ocean at cruise level FL360, near the Brazilian coast, the aircraft encountered severe turbulence.

There were 273 passengers and 13 crew members on board. 12 passengers who were not wearing their seat belts as requested by the crew were injured. The flight continued to Buenos Aires without further problems. After landing, 3 passengers were taken to hospital.

After landing, Aerolineas Argentinas issued a statement saying the crew informed passengers by means of the distinctive "fasten seat belts" sign and an audible announcement. The passengers who were injured were not wearing seat belts at the time of the turbulence.

Post-flight checks showed that the aircraft did not sustain significant structural damage, but the aircraft cabin required some repairs.
