Romanians spend, on average, 589 euros on a vacation in Germany

According to a study by an online booking platform, 83% of Europeans consider sustainable travel vital and 61% say the pandemic has made them want to travel more sustainably in the future.

Germany is a pioneer in sustainable tourism and ranks 2nd as a favorite destination for Europeans to travel in nature, being the most popular type of holiday in Germany. The increased interest for holidays in nature is also seen in the travel plans of Romanian tourists.

However, according to the German Tourism Organization, most Romanians (52%) travel to Germany for urban and cultural holidays. The average budget of Romanian tourists traveling to Germany last year was 589 euros.

In 2021, Romanians spent 15% more nights than in 2020. 2022 will be the year of the return to post-pandemic tourism

The German organization for tourism registered over 900.000 overnight stays of Romanian tourists in 2021 and a percentage increase of 15% compared to the previous year. Approximately 37% of Romanians' visits to Germany are for vacation and leisure, 32% are traveling on business and 30% are visiting friends and family.

Growing demand for sustainable holidays (holidays in nature, with minimal impact on the environment)

One of the effects of the pandemic has been to increase interest in sustainable travel and nature-oriented vacations. The German Tourism Organization (GNTB) has conducted a survey of tourism professionals, and three-quarters of them expect demand in this segment to grow over the next three years.
