The Secretary General of the National Tourism Organization of Greece, Mr. Dimitris Fragakis, sent today, regarding the declaration of the state of emergency for the Island of Rhodes, the following message:

The fire in Rhodes is no longer in the news published in the Greek media.

"The state of emergency regarding the municipalities of Rhodes, affected by the forest fires, is related to the compensation process for the damages suffered as a result of these fires. It is important to note that since yesterday the competent services have started assessing the damage. It is therefore understood that the declaration of a state of emergency in no way implies that it is unsafe for travelers to visit the island".

According to the announcement of the Fire Department of Greece, the fire in Rhodes has been reduced to a hard-to-reach area in the mountains, far from any village or home. The weather also changed for the better, with rain expected in many areas. The Greek authorities believe that there will be no more danger and that they will extinguish the fire very soon.
