Starting with July 1, 2021, Lufthansa will resume the daily frequency of Sibiu-Munich flights, following that in the operating program for the winter season 2021 to reach a level of 12 weekly frequencies.

Sibiu County Council and Deutsche Lufthansa AG have recently concluded the financial aid contract based on the State Aid Scheme to support the activity of airlines in the context of the economic crisis generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, authorized by the European Company by Decision no. SA59156, issued on 20.11.2020.

In 2021, Lufthansa will allocate 65% of the operating capacity from / to Sibiu for 2019

The airline Deutsche Lufthansa AG was the first company to access this support measure following the publication of the announcement by the Sibiu County Council. The main objective of this scheme is to gradually restore demand in terms of relaunching traffic to and from Sibiu International Airport, as well as to minimize the economic impact strongly felt by the aviation industry caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The temporary framework for state aid measures of the European Commission has been a lever in ensuring a faster recovery of this sector affected by the pandemic, while maintaining a level playing field in the single market. The aid scheme encourages airlines to allocate a minimum of 50% of their capacity in 2019 to be able to access it. Here that in the shortest time we could sign a first contract with the German airline Lufthansa and we hope that other contracts will follow. In the case of Lufthansa, it has assumed an operating capacity at and from Sibiu International Airport of 65% compared to the capacity allocated in 2019 and will receive 1,3 Euro for each of the 101.160 seats for a period of 12 consecutive months, starting with July 1 ", said Daniela Cîmpean, president of the Sibiu County Council.

Sibiu County Council is the owner, financier and tutelary authority of Sibiu RA International Airport.
