The coronavirus pandemic has succeeded in bringing down the entire aeronautics and travel industry. The governments of the world have imposed travel restrictions, closed borders, isolated people in homes. And airlines have to suspend flights / routes and hold entire fleets of aircraft on the ground.

Even the largest air carriers have been affected by the new COVID-19. KLM, part of the Air France - KLM group, started in the summer season 2020 with only 10% of operations.

From March 29 to May 3, KLM plans to fly to 25 intercontinental destinations and 32 European destinations. During this period, KLM will fly according to an adjusted program, which will represent 10% of normal activity.

In addition to the scheduled strategic flights, KLM also operates repatriation and cargo flights. But for these, KLM uses a small part of the fleet. Used aircraft: Boeing 777-300, Boeing 787-9 / 10, part of Embraer 190 fleet and part of Boeing 737 fleet.

The rest of the planes, which do not fly during this period, are parked at Schiphol - Amsterdam Airport. The aircraft are protected from the weather, but at the same time they are well maintained. They can return to flight at any time.

KLM and Schiphol Airport - Amsterdam work very well together to use the space as efficiently as possible. A maximum of 200 aircraft will be parked at Schiphol, 100 of which belong to KLM and KLM Cityhopper.

At Schiphol Airport - Amsterdam is the entire KLM long-haul fleet: A330 (13), Boeing 777-200 (15) and Boeing 747 (7), the latter being withdrawn from commercial service. The Embraer 175 (17), Embraer 190 (15) and Boeing 737 (34) aircraft are also parked at Schiphol.
