KLM plans to renew its long-haul fleet with Airbus A350 family aircraft in the coming years. The Airbus A350 is recognized as the most fuel-efficient and quietest aircraft of its generation. These new aircraft have substantial benefits in terms of reducing CO2 emissions and noise impact. Purchases are subject to the recommendations of the KLM Works Council.

The Air France – KLM group has signed an agreement with Airbus for a total of 50 Airbus A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft, with an option for another 40 aircraft. The 50 aircraft have been ordered and will be split between KLM and Air France depending on local market dynamics and regulatory conditions. KLM expects to start deploying the new Airbus A350 aircraft on intercontinental flights from 2026, replacing the current Boeing 777-200ER, Airbus A330-200 and Airbus A330-300.

With these combined orders, covering up to 99 aircraft, Air France-KLM would become the largest operator of A350 family aircraft in the world.

The Airbus A350 symbolizes the transition to a more sustainable air transport industry. The aircraft consumes 25% less fuel compared to an aircraft of equivalent size, from the previous generation, thanks to the use of lighter materials: 53% composites and 14% titanium. Its noise footprint is also reduced by 40%.
