The German capital will receive a new "flying" ambassador. Lufthansa will name the first Boeing 787-9 "Berlin". The appointment ceremony will take place after the delivery of the aircraft, scheduled for 2022.

"Berlin" is the first of five Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners that Lufthansa will add to its fleet in 2022. The state-of-the-art long-haul aircraft consumes on average only 2,5 liters of kerosene / passenger / 100 kilometers flown, by 30% less than previous aircraft. CO2 emissions are also much lower.

Since 1960, Lufthansa has named its aircraft after German cities. The first Boeing 707 Lufthansa was named "Berlin". An Airbus A380 with the D-AIMI registration identifier is also named after the German capital.

The first Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 - "Berlin" - will be registered D-ABPA. The first intercontinental destination planned for Lufthansa 787-9 will be Toronto, the financial center and the Canadian center.

Lufthansa and the German capital have a long and special relationship since 1926, the year the company was founded. Currently, Lufthansa Group airlines connect the German capital to approximately 260 destinations worldwide, either by direct flight or by connections in one of the group's many hubs.
